A full day exploring the Sham Valley en route, taking in Thiksey Monastery, the Rancho's School made famous by film, and Shey Palace.

Drive around 4-5 hours (125km) to Nubra, the valley of flowers, crossing Khardung La — the world's highest motorable road at 18,380 feet — with sweeping views of the Indus valley. Descend into Nubra, then visit Hunder's sand dunes for a double-humped Bactrian camel ride before sunset.

A scenic 6-7 hour drive via the Shyok route to Pangong Lake — the mesmerizing blue lake made famous by Bollywood — arriving in time to watch the sunset over the water.

Watch sunrise over the lake, then return to Leh via Chang La — the third-highest motorable pass — visiting the Hall of Fame museum, Gurudwara Patthar Sahib, the gravity-defying Magnetic Hill, and Sangam, the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers.

A roughly 4.5-hour drive (215km) to Kargil, stopping at Wakha Mulbekh village to see the Mulbekh Buddha statue, before continuing past Lamayuru monastery and its otherworldly moonland landscape.

An early morning transfer to Srinagar (201km, approx. 4.5 hours) via Sonmarg, the Zojila pass and the Drass war memorial.

Visit the Mughal gardens of Srinagar — Nishat Bagh with its view over Dal Lake, the royal Shalimar Bagh, and Cheshma Shahi — before a one-hour shikara ride on Dal Lake as evening falls.

Transfer to Pahalgam (90km) to enjoy the charm of the valley, with visits to Betaab Valley — made famous by Bollywood — Chandanwari, the starting point of the Amarnath Yatra, and Aru Valley.

Drive around 1.5 hours to Gulmarg, the 'meadow of flowers' at 2,730m, home to some of the world's best ski slopes and highest golf courses. Ride the gondola cable car towards Apharwat peak before returning to Srinagar in the evening.
