A full day exploring Yangon — worship at the iconic Shwedagon Pagoda, built more than 2,000 years ago, the Sule Pagoda and the giant reclining Buddha, followed by a city tour and a visit to the Bogyoke (Scott) Market.

Drive to Kyaik Hti Yo, then transfer by open truck around an hour up the mountain to the 1,100m summit, where the golden boulder enshrining a hair relic of the Buddha balances at the cliff edge. Worship at the pagoda and watch the sunset over the hills.

Watch a spectacular sunrise over the Golden Rock before descending the mountain and driving on to Naypyitaw, Myanmar's purpose-built capital.

Tour Naypyitaw's grand Uppatasanti Pagoda, the city's water gardens and its rare white elephants, before continuing on to Bagan.

A full day among Bagan's ancient stupas — Shwezigon Pagoda, Gu Byauk Gyi, Manuha Temple and the Nan Myint watchtower — across a plain of more than 84,000 monuments, ending with a horse-cart ride to watch the sunset over the temples.

Drive to Mandalay to worship at the Mahamuni Buddha image and visit the all-teak Shwenandaw Monastery and Royal Palace, before climbing Mandalay Hill for sweeping views and sunset over the Ayeyarwady River.

Cross the 200-year-old U Bein teak bridge, join the alms round of more than 2,500 monks at Mahagandayon Monastery, and visit the Kuthodaw Pagoda — home to the world's largest book — and a traditional silk-weaving village.

Drive south to the ancient Pindaya Caves, filled with thousands of Buddha images, before continuing to the hill town of Kalaw.

A full day cruising Inle Lake, Myanmar's largest lake, ringed by mountains — passing floating villages, stilt-house pagodas and the leg-rowing Intha fishermen.

Transfer to Yangon for your return flight home, taking with you the memory of Myanmar's golden pagodas.
